Equipment
Nu Carb
Equipment Type
- Peripheral
Our Nu Carb was purchased along with our Nu Perspective-IS for the automated sampling of carbonate powders.
Nu Perspective-IS
Equipment Type
- Mass Spectrometer
We have recently installed a Nu Perspective-IS for the analysis of clumped isotopes in CO2. As of late 2021, this machine is still in the testing and calibration phase, but if that process runs smoothly we aim to be producing data in 2022.
This instrument was acquired under NSF Award 1832350.
Microbalance
Equipment Type
- Preparation Tool
We have several high mass resolution microbalances used for weighing material prior to analysis, including a Mettler-Toledo MX-5, and two Sartorius microbalances.
Super Tech Mill
Equipment Type
- Preparation Tool
We have one TAIG CNC mill used also for high spatial precision drilling, which is primarily used for sampling speleothem material.
Micromill
Equipment Type
- Preparation Tool
We have two ESI (formerly Merchantek, New Wave) computer controlled micromilled for high spatial precision drilling. This equipment is primarily used to ontogenetically sample shell material.
Elemental Analyzer
Equipment Type
- Peripheral
We have two elemental analyzers, a Costech 4010 Elemantal Analyzer (EA) and a Thermo High Temperature Conversion Elemental Analyzer (TC/EA). These devices are used in the analysis of organic carbon and nitrogen isotopes.
Thermo GasBench II
Equipment Type
- Peripheral
We have two GasBench devices which are primarily used for acidification and analysis of carbonate isotopes, but are also used in the analysis of water isotopes. Both mass spectrometers can be equipped with a GasBench.
Thermo Delta Plus
Equipment Type
- Mass Spectrometer
This instrument was acquired in 2001 and can be equipped with either a dual inlet or continuous flow gas introduction device. Acquired under NSF No. 9977326.
Thermo Delta V Plus
Equipment Type
- Mass Spectrometer
This instrument was acquired 2011, and is primarily equipped with a continuous flow gas introduction device. Acquired under NSF No. 0949303.
